TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes - May 31th, 2009
The TELUS Walk to Cure Diabetes is Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s most powerful fundraising engine attracting over 45,000 Canadians every year who are dedicated to finding a cure for diabetes. WPCG will be assisting with the organization of all of the pledges coming in.
This event provides an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about juvenile (Type 1) diabetes, raise much needed funds and is a great way for corporations and families to get out for a day of fun and fitness. WPCG is pleased to be part of the action!
Jeans Day - April 30th, 2009
Jeans Day™
On April 30th, 2009 WPCG participated in Jeans Day!
On Jeans Day™ people across the province proudly wear their lapel pin or button acknowledging their support of BC Children's Hospital.
BC Children's Hospital is the province's only pediatric facility that treats critically ill and injured children from birth to age 16. The care provided is tailored to the unique needs of children. Funds raised from Jeans Day™ purchase urgently needed equipment, fund research of childhood illnesses and special educational projects.
WPCG was happy to be a part of such a worthy cause.
Variety: The Children's Charity - March 13th, 2009
March 13th marked an exceptional visit to Variety: The Children’s Charity. They hosted their Show of Hearts Telethon on February 13th and all donors who contributed more than $159 during the show were to a receive limited edition Robert Bateman poster in the mail. It normally takes Variety up to a month to send out approximately 6,000 posters – this year; they wanted it done in 2 weeks.
Upon arrival, we designed an entire assembly line from preparing poster packaging to lining boxes of 50 up for the mail truck. We were successful in queuing just over 2,200 posters – more than a third of the total posters in one day. Had Variety paid for just the work we’d done, they would have paid approximately $2,000.
Every team member put some sweat equity into Variety and we should be proud of this contribution. We showed great teamwork, ingenuity, delicate hands and brute strength as needed – great job.
WPCG's CR Day - February, 2009
Immediately after, we visited Free Geek and dropped off computer equipment from the office and home for reuse and recycling. Free Geek is dedicated to ensuring that computer equipment is recycled in the most transparent, environmentally friendly approach possible while doing its best to provide non-profits in Vancouver with refurbished equipment not yet ready for recycling. Their activist approach to ensuring free, open source software is available to these organizations is a serious driver. Upon returning to the office our team began to discuss an upcoming company event in June. We will be having our second sustainable BBQ with local, organic food and a full team-building event. As a group, we discussed our personal values around local food, sustainability and where we are at in our own understanding of these topics. We checked out the Story of Stuff which made a large impact on our understanding of consumerism and supply chains. The room had amazing energy and we're looking forward to taking that forward in our upcoming sustainable BBQ.
On Wednesday February 25th WPCG participated in the Anti-Bullying Pink Shirt Campaign! www.pinkshirtday.ca
In addition to wearing our pink shirts to show our support, WPCG leaned about and educated our team about the various anti-bullying programs and resources that are in place in schools across the GVA.
Friends For Life - January, 2009
On January 23rd, the CR Program sent 7 of WPCG's staff members to Friends for Life. A heritage house in the west end, they provide alternative healthcare including massage, naturopathic medicine, reiki, aromatherapy and other treatments to people with life-threatening illnesses. Examples include HIV/AIDS, cancer, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and other diseases or afflictions.
WPCG helped implement a new software scheduling system to ensure a maximized return on their volunteers' time and ensure that their clients see the people they need as often as they should. We also took care of everything that needed to be taken care of in terms of maintenance in the kitchen.
This event was a huge success!
